Plumbers Local 23 is accepting Apprentice applications

Local 23 is located in Rockford, IL representing over 750 Plumber, Pipefitter, and HVACR journeymen and apprentices in Winnebago, Stephenson, Boone, Ogle, Jo Daviess, and parts of Carroll counties in Illinois.

Applications will be accepted at the following times or by appointment:(door says training above it)

You must apply in person at 4525 Boeing Drive Rockford Illinois 61109

  • Monday-Thursdays 9:00am-11:00am and 1:00pm-4:00pm (no appointment needed)
  • Fridays or additional hours by appointment ONLY.
  • Holiday hours may vary.

Application Fee of $20 which can be submitted via Cashiers Check, Money Order (made payable to JATC) or $22 if using credit card or Debit

Deadline for 2027 selection period is December 15th 2026. 


Requirements

Applicants will be sent an email with direction on next steps within 72 business hours following application. 

Complete Personal Experience Form (PEF) included in follow up email.

Submit High School Transcript (sealed from school). High School showing completion of a minimum of one year of algebra or High school Equivalency (GED) Transcripts must be submitted by email or fax directly from educational provider to training@ualocal23.org or faxed to 815-397-8912. Transcripts can be submitted in person, but they must be sealed from school. Open Transcripts or transcripts sent directly from applicants will not be accepted. Do not submit transcripts prior to applying, they will not be accepted.

Deadline for transcripts and PEF is December 15th 2026. Those who failed to supporting documents submitted by deadline application becomes in eligible for 2027 selection period.

Aptitude testing for those who applied between December 16th 2025- December 15th 2026 will be scheduled for those who meet minimum requirements for January 8th 2027.

Study guides are available for purchase at 4525 Boeing Drive with $20 cashiers check or money order mad payable to JATC or $22 if using credit or debit card. Study guides can also be ordered digitally by clicking here.

Show up for interview (a minimum of 30 minutes prior to scheduled interview)

Interview time and dates will be posted on the "track your application" using the application number at the top of your application once available. Applicants will receive an email once posted.

Scores from PEF, Aptitude test, and interview will be merged together to establish a ranking.

Applicants will be assigned employment based on ranking. For example if it is determined we will accept 10 apprentices, those ranked 1-10 will be placed in apprenticeship.

Apprentice selection is based of our employer/Industry demand. Local 23 places apprentices with employers, apprentices do not need sponsors or to find an employer.

If selected, apprentices will be assigned employment from the JATC. Selected apprentices will report for drug testing, OSHA 10-hour training, and 50 hours pre-employment training.

Apprentices report for training for six weeks (approximately every six weeks) for 5 years of apprenticeship. While employed, apprentices earn an exceptional wage and benefit package, with annual increases throughout the five-year program.
